The extent of beauty.

I don’t expect this to be a long post, it is 11:53 pm, and I plan to go to bed ’round midnight, but I wanted to post a thought I had today.

Renaissance portraitI went to get my eyebrows waxed earlier today. I am not a fan of pain, but this is one of the few “it’s not so bad”/”pain for beauty” things that I do. However, as I was lying there with my eyes closed as the girl carefully spread the hot wax on my face, I couldn’t help but think of women in the Renaissance. Yes, my art history training almost constantly runs through my head.

In the Renaissance, the fashion was high, pale foreheads. And by high, I mean receding hairline/balding. I’m not sure why it was in fashion, perhaps there desire to remove facial hair went to the extreme or perhaps it tied in to some idea of sensually showing more skin or maybe, they just thought it looked good. And, if I had more than 2 minutes to finish this post, I might do some research. Whatever the reason, that was beauty. And I thought to myself as the girl pulled the paper strip: “really, not much has changed.”
