Today it rained. It also hailed, ever so briefly.
I was texting a friend (yeah, I’m hip, I do that) and she was telling me that it was hailing where she was, about 10 minutes away. I glanced out the window and thought: “Holy Cow, look at those clouds!” I immediately grabbed my camera and went outside. I only got a few shots in before the clouds gave way to a solid gray sky, and the rain really started coming down. I then went upstairs to shoot out the window (I was hoping to get a lightning shot, but because the sky was still quite bright and the lightning was scarce, it didn’t happen). As I noticed the rain letting up, I pulled my camera down to “see what i got.” After a few seconds, I glanced back up and noticed a lovely rainbow. It was actually quite a bit lovelier than my camera could capture because opposite the rainbow was a bright orange sunset. It just amazed me that in a short amount of time, the sky went from a very colorless mass of clouds to a brightly colored sky.
I thought of Noah, as I tend to always do when I see rainbows (hey, that’s the point of them, right?) Not simply remembering the account of the animal-filled ark, but the promise God gave. And, what I think is more important than the promise itself is the fact that He has kept it. Rainbows remind me of an unfailing God who always does what he says He will do.
(I will say that I think the third image is my favorite…there’s something about the light peaking through that I love!)

What a hopeless situation we would be in if God were not a covenant-keeping God.
It is a shame the rainbow symbol has been largely co-opted in our culture by those who are by their very nature opposed to He who gives the rainbow.
